CoreCivic, Inc. is a prominent American company that specializes in the ownership, management, and operation of private prisons, detention centers, and residential reentry facilities. Founded in 1983 in Nashville, Tennessee, the company was originally known as the Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) and rebranded to CoreCivic in 2016. It is the second largest private corrections company in the U.S. and the largest owner of partnership correctional and detention facilities. CoreCivic manages over 65 state and federal correctional and detention facilities across 19 states and the District of Columbia, with a total capacity exceeding 76,000 beds. The company provides a variety of services, including electronic monitoring, prisoner transportation, and residential reentry programs aimed at supporting inmates' transition back into society. CoreCivic generates a significant portion of its revenue from contracts with federal agencies, such as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Prisons, as well as state and local government contracts.
